A Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) is a registered nurse who uses existing expertise as a healthcare professional plus specialized training as a legal nurse consultant. While the attorney is the expert on legal issues, the LNC is the expert on nursing, the healthcare system and its inner workings. Additionally, LNC's provide healthcare expertise for insurance companies, utilization review firms, government agencies, private corporations and hospitals. The LNC's services include assisting with discovery; conducting research; reviewing medical records; identifying standards of care; preparing reports and summaries on the extent of injury or illness; and locating expert witnesses.The legal nurse consultant acts as a specialized member of the litigation team whose professional contributions are often critical to achieving a fair and just outcome for all parties.

Joy Collins has more than 30 years of nursing experience. She has worked in the fields of medical/surgical nursing (including orthopedics and rehabilitation), oncology, and psychiatry, both at the bedside and in administration, at one time holding the position of Director of Nursing.In addition to her RN, Joy also has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from St. Joseph's College. She was one of only a few individuals to hold a double certification in Legal Nurse Consulting. She was certified by the National Association of Legal Nurse Consultants [CLNC] and also by the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants [LNCC]. In addition, she also received a certification in Forensic Nursing from Kaplan University. Joy worked as an in-house consultant to one of the largest medical malpractice law firms in Phoenix before opening up her own business.
